The President of Afghanistan increases the presence of women in government

The former deputy spokesperson of the ex President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, Adela Raz, had been appointed as Deputy Foreign Minister for economic affairs. The Administrative Office of the Afghan President, Dr. Ashraf Ghani, said that her appointment was widely welcomed and was based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President Ghani’s decree. President Ghani had promised in his electoral campaign to increase the representation of women in the government. President Ghani affirmed his commitment to provide more opportunities to women in the national unity government and he assured that women’s assignment would be based on qualifications, not nepotism.
