Afghanistan earned over $4.5m for showing Bactrian Treasury abroad

Displaying the Bactrian Treasury abroad has brought in over 4.5 million dollars for Afghanistan. It was displayed in more than ten countries over the past 13 years. The Bactrian Treasury is recognized as one of the biggest collections of gold in the world and was discovered four decades ago in the Tela Tapa area of Sherberghan district, the center of northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan. The collection is composed of jewels and gold, and was discovered from a royal cemetery. Seven corpses were decorated with thousands of pieces of gold. The treasure belonged to the Kushan Empire. The Kushan Empire was formed by the Yuezhi in the Bactrian territories in the early 1st century.

Pakistan proposes railroad with Afghanistan to help boost trade between the two countries

The Pakistan Railways has announced plans to construct a rail link with neighbouring Afghanistan to improve trade and facilitate passengers.  The railway track will connect Pakistan’s Chaman district of Balochistan with the Spin Boldak town of the Kandahar province in Afghanistan, Pakistan Minister for Railways announced at a press conference. In the first phase, about 12 km railway track will be laid from Chaman to Spin Boldak, he said. After its completion, the railway track could be extended to Kandahar city if the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan expressed its willingness, the minister added. The proposed rail project has been pending for the past many years.

Ensuring access to electricity for vulnerable communities in Afghanistan

ADB has approved a $154.4 million grant to boost the supply of power in Afghanistan by extending the country’s power grid into the western provinces of Herat and Farah, ensuring access to electricity for vulnerable communities in those provinces. The project will extend power supply from Turkmenistan under the ongoing power purchase and sales agreement between the two countries. This includes supplying power transmission from local wind and solar photovoltaic projects of up to 100 megawatts and substituting electricity generated from diesel with renewable and imported gas-based grid power at a lower cost. Pakistan plans to establish Joint Trade Markets with Afghanistan

The Government of Pakistan has decided to establish 12 Joint Trade Markets (JBTMs) on Durand Line, Pakistan's embassy in Kabul said in a statement. "The JBTMs are believed to promote the wellbeing of the people living on both sides of the Durand Line, rehabilitate those affected by anti-smuggling drive, economically integrate the neglected areas, formalize bilateral trade and transform local economies," the statement said. The statement also mentioned that Pakistan has prepared a draft memorandum of understanding on the establishment of JBTMs with Afghanistan, covering all aspects, including the proposed list of items to be traded in these markets.
